In addition to the system requirements for Windows Server 2008 as described in its release notes, 64-bit system with hardware-assisted virtualization enabled (AMD processor with AMD-V technology or Intel processor with Intel-VT technology) and data execution prevention (DEP) is required. It is also recommended to ensure that you have a clean install of x64 edition of Windows Server 2008 to be able to use the Hyper-V technology. You can use the following resources to check if your system is ready for Hyper-V:

Software

Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 Edition or above with Hyper-V role - Full Installation or Server Core. Hyper-V Server 2008 is also supported. Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Edition allows unlimited number of virtual machines without additional licensing of guest operating systems. You may have SPLA (more info about SPLA) or lease Windows Server 2008 Datacenter with Hyper-V from your data center.
