Business situation

SDCC was looking for a solution that would let them provide Hosted Exchange 2007 reusing their existing network environment.

Solution

The company implemented DotNetPanel Exchange 2007 Enterprise Module with 2 servers only.

Benefits

  • Minimum investments in servers needed to start providing Hosted Exchange services
  • Costs reduced thanks to services provided directly to end customers
  • Fast and proficient support

“The hosted Exchange product has allowed us to offer hosted mailboxes directly to our customers and make a reasonable margin doing it. Outsourced Exchange hosting “affiliate programs” offer such small margins that it is difficult for us as consultants to recommend it as a solution.

Overall, our satisfaction with DNP has been good. The solution has been fast and reliable.”

Eli Selig, Vice President with SDCC

Eli Selig picture“Other solutions, such as the Microsoft Hosting solution required upwards of 15 servers, which for a small provider was effectively a barrier to entry. The SDCC Exchange Hosted platform was achievable initially with two servers. This allowed us to prove the concept and verify that a market existed before adding additional servers.”

Eli Selig, Vice President with SDCC

San Diego Computer Consulting (www.SanDiegoComputer.com) is a provider of small business network and technology services for businesses in Southern California since 1997.

SDCC offers licensed and experienced computer consultants for computer networking solutions and installations, computer repair, antivirus, IT solutions from Microsoft, Sonicwall, Cisco, Postini and others, Unix and NT server maintenance and administration, business and office computer systems, troubleshooting, network security, business relocation, and remote computing.

The company also provides web hosting including DNS and Email hosting and online backup services. Recently SDCC started offering hosted Exchange Server with solution from DotNetPanel.

Business situation

With the release of Microsoft Exchange 2007 and with good offering from Microsoft SPLA it became possible for small providers to start offering Hosted SaaS solutions at a minimum start-up cost.

Realizing that small businesses are constantly migrating towards hosted SaaS solutions replacing on premises solutions, SDCC were looking for a provisioning system to start providing Hosted Exchange 2007 to their customers but they wanted to prove the concept first and verify that a market existed before investing in additional servers.

Solution

The DotNetPanel Hosted Exchange solution was chosen by San Diego Computer Consulting due to its ease of deployment into their existing infrastructure. They considered other solutions that were based on HMC 4.0 but they required more than 15 servers so that initial costs were too high for a small provider to start offering new services.

With DotNetPanel Hosted Exchange the SDCC Hosted Exchange platform was achievable with two servers only. At the same time, scalability of DotNetPanel Exchange 2007 Enterprise Module allows to easily expand the hosting environment as their business grows.

Benefits

DotNetPanel Exchange 2007 solution can be deployed on minimum hosting environments and easily expanded as business grows which reduces start-up costs. With this solution a small provider has an opportunity to launch pilot hosting before making investments in new servers.

With DotNetPanel Hosted Exchange implemented SDCC started providing hosted Exchange mailboxes directly to their customers which allowed them to offer competitive prices and reduced costs.
